Meet the Candidate - Executive Vice President

  • Nistha Boghra

    Executive Vice Presidential Candidate

My name is Nistha Boghra, and I am running for Executive Vice President!

As a Journalism major on the pre-med track, I previously served on both the Senate and Executive Council of USG. As a past Senator, my successful initiatives include increasing accessibility to Student Health with the implementation of TimelyCare and a self-scheduler, promoting diversity with the first ever CultureFest, and creating the Menstrual Hygiene Program.

As VP of Communications, I primarily focus on working to make USG more transparent, by increasing USG presence by tabling around campus, club highlights on our Instagram, newsletters and creative reels, and laying the foundations for Humans of SBU, a platform to highlight Seawolves’ accomplishments. I worked to make administrators more personable to students, by producing a Rick Gatteau and Ric McClendon Face-Off, and working with our VP of Academic Affairs and President McInnis to produce a video explaining the tuition increases.

I am a core member of the Honors College, Raaswalas, Student Health Advisory Council, and served on the committees for USG’s SpookyBrook, Diversity Day, and Roth Regatta. The work I have done with these committees, and my wide presence on campus allows me to connect with many students and voice their concerns.

Next year, I hope to shape a Senate that advocates for the changes students want to see, by:

★ Better connecting USG with Individuals and Clubs by

    ○ Increasing Senate outreach by encouraging club visits

    ○ Opening events, committees and initiatives by Senators to be inclusive to individual students, and clubs & organizations

    ○ Pushing for more club collaborations in Senator initiatives, especially in cultural events to highlight our campus diversity

★ Making Senators well-rounded student advocates, by

    ○ Designing a SBU Survival Guide where campus and USG resources are consolidated,

making it easy for Senators to share such information with students

    ○ Setting up a Senator Office Hour schedule so students can meet Senators by appointment regarding an initiative, feedback, or advocacy project

I plan to grow my own initiatives, including:

★ Health Access and Resources. As a pre-med, I work actively in:

    ○ Co-leading and growing the Menstrual Hygiene Program with more dispensers & donation drives, and spearheading awareness events

    ○ Working to make Student Health Services more accessible by advocating for a self-scheduler and expanding hours and locations on campus

    ○ Encourage Senator outreach during midterms and finals weeks, and working with CPO to implement special stress-relief programming for those times

★ Implementing campus Thrift Store promoting sustainable fashion, both in the form of pop-up events, with an ongoing clothes pantry accessible to all

I have more initiatives planned, including a #BeautifyStonyBrook campaign, a textbook library/book share program, a student-led Diversity Advisory Council, growing Humans of SBU and more.

As EVP, I will make sure to put all my energy into making sure your voice is heard, and will work with you all to make SBU a better place.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration, and I hope to be your voice this year! Please feel free to reach out to me at nistha.boghra@stonybrook.edu if you have any questions or want to chat!
