Meet the Candidate - President

  • Devin Lobosco

    Presidential Candidate

My name is Devin Lobosco, and I’m a Junior majoring in Biochemistry and Women’s and Gender Studies. I’m USG’s current Executive Vice President, and I am running to be your next USG President.

Outside of USG, I am involved as a general body member of multiple clubs, the mental health chair of Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity, the VP of Service for NRHH, and a CPO Peer Educator. If elected, I will carry the torch with some of USG’s most successful events like Roth Regatta, and continue to craft new ones. And most of all, I will take every opportunity to listen to your feedback to make SBU more fun, beautiful, healthy and safe than ever before.

My time as a USG representative has been by far my most fulfilling experience at Stony Brook. I have delivered on major initiatives like USG’s Menstrual Hygiene Program, a myriad of USG workshops, and the upcoming Mental Health Gala. Behind the scenes, I have created and passed multiple legislative changes improving organizational structure, club funding accessibility and USG transparency.

There are so many initiatives I have in store, but here are the ones I’m most excited about:

    1. Supporting Students in the classroom:

After years of working to address mental health concerns on campus, I realized that there was one place where our efforts often did not reach: the classroom. I have already begun to coordinate over a dozen campus departments, both academic and non-academic, to better integrate the plethora of student support resources on campus into the academic sphere. This will include support resources included on syllabi, trainings for professors and teaching assistants, interventions for unsupportive professors and more, all to make sure your classes don’t feel cutthroat, no matter your major.

    2. Menstrual Hygiene Program

I firmly believe that accessible and free health products are a human right, including menstrual products. Over the past two years, I have fought to introduce free pad and tampon dispensers in public bathrooms. I aim to introduce at least three more dispensers around campus over the next year to expand the reach of our program. I will also continue to advocate for the addition of more accessible All-gender Bathrooms on campus, to ensure these products are accessible to all.

    3. Parking

After the announcement that all students will have to pay for parking next year, and the massive backlash from students, I immediately stepped in to advocate on behalf of students. Over the past month, I have met with President McInnis, MAPS, and other student leaders to make demands for student protection and transparency moving forward. I have faith in negotiating with the university, but I am not afraid to put my foot down if I feel our rights have been infringed. As president, I will keep these lines of communication open to give students a voice no matter what the future of parking holds.

I’m someone who both loves Stony Brook, but knows how much work is left to do to make sure we can be proud of the place we call home. If elected, I will continue to tirelessly advocate for the student body anywhere and everywhere. Thank you for your time and consideration. I’d love to talk more, so don’t hesitate to reach out to me at devin.lobosco@stonybrook.edu!
