President
Meet the Candidates!
Sarah elbaroudy
Hey Seawolves!
My name is Sarah Elbaroudy, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for Undergraduate
Student Government President. As a third-year commuter student double majoring in Political
Science and Sociology with a minor in Health, Medicine, & Society, I have dedicated my time at
Stony Brook to advocacy, leadership, and ensuring that every student’s voice is heard in
shaping our university’s future
Currently serving as Vice President of University Affairs, I have worked diligently to spearhead
initiatives, advocate for student-centered policies, and fill critical gaps in university support
structures. My leadership has been recognized at the highest levels, earning me the State
University of New York Student Assembly "Outstanding Advocacy" Award for my
commitment to policy-driven change.
I have built strong relationships with faculty, administrators, and state policymakers, allowing me to strategically push for policies at
every level—from campus administration to SUNY leadership to state officials. My experience ensures that I will not only advocate for
student concerns but also navigate the institutional and legislative processes necessary to turn ideas into reality.
Throughout my time in USG, I have worked on initiatives that:
✔ Expanded student representation on governance bodies, strengthening student influence in decision-making.
✔ Kept Lot 40 Parking free, fighting to represent you by having critical discussions with MAPS
✔ Advocated for the creation of the Undocumented and Immigrant Student Success Center, working to secure essential support for
marginalized students.
✔ Led academic policy reforms, successfully revising GPA calculations for course retakes, a policy change taking effect in Fall 2025.
✔ Promoted transparency in broad-based fee changes, ensuring student participation in budgetary decisions.
✔ Strengthened research opportunities for undergraduates, particularly in the humanities and arts, by expanding faculty-student
connections-thanks to Senator Erfan for the NEXUS Research website initiative he spearheaded with his team of developers.
✔ Facilitated essential dialogues between Muslim students, university officials, and local law enforcement, fostering cultural
understanding and developing sensitivity training.

2. Implementing Digital Student ID Cards
Advocating for mobile ID cards to increase accessibility and convenience.
3. Recognizing Eid al-Adha, Eid al-Fitr, and Lunar New Year as Official SUNY Holidays
Pushing for SUNY-wide recognition of these important holidays, following the student leaders at CUNY’s lead.
4. Expanding Civic Engagement: Early Voting on Campus
Collaborating with Assemblymember Kassay to mandate every SUNY and CUNY campus serve as an early voting site.
5. Protecting and Expanding the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
Fighting to preserve and increase funding for EOP, ensuring continued support for underserved students.
6. Increasing Funding for Sports Clubs & Reforming Budget Caps
Advocating for a portion of Rec/Student Life Fee funds to be allocated to sports clubs.
Revisiting the $40K budget cap to better support clubs with higher operational costs.
7. Continued Academic Policies and Services Reforms
As President, I will continue advocating for academic reforms that prioritize student success and fairness.
As your USG President, I bring a track record of results-driven advocacy, deep institutional knowledge, and an ability to navigate
multiple governance levels to enact real change. My passion for the USG Presidency is about ensuring that every student, whether a
commuter or resident, STEM or humanities major, student-athlete or first-generation college student, has a voice in shaping Stony
Brook’s future.
Vote Sarah Elbaroudy for USG President, and together, let’s create a more inclusive, engaged, and student-driven Stony Brook
University.
From Campus to Capitol, fighting for YOU.
Thank you, and Inshallah I would be honored to serve as your USG President!
Hey Seawolves!
USG is failing undergraduate students. Clubs are left in the dark, budgets are mismanaged, and student voices are being ignored. It's time for change.
My name is James Gill, and I’m a junior majoring in Business Management with a specialization in finance. I am running for President of Stony Brook University’s Undergraduate Student Government as a member of the Seawolves Forward Party.
Right now, USG is failing in two major areas:
Lack of Communication & Transparency with Clubs
Many clubs have been left in the dark about important updates affecting everything from their budgets to daily operations. Sometimes, an email is not enough to inform our hundreds of clubs about important updates. As President, I will:
- Establish a direct line of communication between club leaders and USG.
- Work closely with clubs to resolve administrative issues.
- Inform clubs in advance about USG operations legislative changes that affect them.
Inefficient Management of the USG Budget
Despite USG’s large budget, many clubs have faced unnecessary and unfair cuts to their budgets. At the same time, we have seen USG spend money on things that don’t positively benefit the undergraduate student body. As President, I will:
- Use the USG website and Instagram to publicize where every dollar from the Student Activity Fee gets spent.
- Eliminate unnecessary spending that diminishes the budget each year.
- Remove restrictive funding caps that prevent clubs from requesting funding for their needs.
We deserve a USG that promotes the interests of our students and clubs. With your vote, we can fix the problems that USG has been facing for years. Together, we will put students first, empower our clubs, and reduce wasteful spending.
