Meet the Candidates!

Ece naz durali

Hello Seawolves!

My name is Ece Naz Durali, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Political Science majoring in Journalism on the Pre-Law Track. And I am running to be your next Vice President of University Affairs.

This year, I’ve had the pleasure of serving as your At-Large Senator in the Undergraduate Student Government. In this role, I’ve gained invaluable insight into the daily challenges our student body faces.

As a current member of the University Affairs Committee for the University Senate and an Undergraduate Voting Member for the University Senate, I’ve worked closely on shaping policies that impact our academic experience. Additionally, I’ve served on the Legislative and Vetting Committee, where I helped work on resolutions and initiatives that directly impact student life. I’ve also contributed to the planning of large-scale events like Roth Regatta, Diversity Day, Mental Health Gala, and Club Social, all of which have played key roles in fostering campus engagement and uniting our diverse community.

My time in the University Affairs Committee and as an At-Large Senator has truly shaped how I approach leadership. I’ve been lucky enough to work on initiatives that directly impact student life, like advocating for better parking policies, increasing mental health resources, and pushing for changes in academic policies that benefit all of us. One project I’m particularly proud of is working with Senator Uzair to save the Commuter Assistant Program. We passed a resolution in our last Senate meeting to ensure this program stays available for future students, showing my commitment to commuter students and their unique needs. I’ll also keep working to improve academic advising and expand resources so all students can thrive here at SBU. In addition, I’m part of the Student Bill of Rights Sub-Committee, where we advocate for students rights in cases of sexual and interpersonal violence.

Beyond my student government roles, I’ve gained valuable leadership experience as Vice President of the Commuter Student Association, Vice President of UNICEF at SBU, and with the Pre-Law Society. These experiences have sharpened my skills in teamwork, communication, and advocacy, and have shown me how crucial it is to prioritize the diverse needs of our student body. I’ll bring that same dedication to university-wide issues, ensuring that we create an inclusive campus where everyone has the support they need to succeed.

I firmly believe that meaningful change happens when we all work together. That’s why I’m committed to building strong relationships with faculty, administration, and student organizations, so we can ensure student voices are heard and your needs are prioritized in every decision-making process. By continuing to bridge the gap between students and campus leaders, I’ll fight for policies that truly reflect our collective interests.

I’ll continue the tradition of Community at UNITI, a celebration of artistic expression, giving students a platform to share their creativity. I'm also excited to expand Pre-Med and Pre-Law Town Halls and include other departments, like Engineering, to ensure every student has the resources they need to succeed.

I’ve supported student well-being through events like Destress With Snowmen with Senator Fanter, which created a relaxing environment during finals. I will continue to plan initiatives that reduce stress and promote mental health across campus. In addition, I’ll address ongoing concerns about advising by meeting with Dean David Wrobel and collaborating with department heads to ensure that students receive the support they need.

As a commuter, I understand the challenges with parking availability and high permit costs. I’ll work with MAPS to advocate for more affordable parking options and improved availability. I’m also excited to bring back TEDxSBU, creating an opportunity for students to share their ideas, hear from inspiring speakers, and participate in meaningful campus events.

As Vice President of University Affairs, I will work to strengthen the connection between students and the university, improve academic support systems, promote diversity and cultural celebrations, and ensure that student voices are at the forefront of every policy decision. I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving our community, and with your vote, I will keep advocating for a campus where every Seawolf can thrive, building a more inclusive, supportive environment for all students.

If you have any questions, concerns or issues, please feel free to email me at ecenaz.durali@stonybrook.edu. Let's shape the future of our university together! Thank you for your consideration, and support. I look forward to hearing from you.
